Why we cook this way.
We believe great pub food starts with great ingredients and careful preparation. That's why almost everything we serve is made from scratch in our kitchen using produce from trusted local suppliers. Rather than preparing huge quantities in advance, we cook in small batches throughout the week to keep everything as fresh as possible.
Because we prioritise freshness over volume, some dishes occasionally sell out before service ends.

We work with some of Sussex's best independent producers and suppliers. Supporting local producers helps us source exceptional ingredients while keeping our food connected to the community around us. From Brighton charcuterie and Sussex cheeses to fresh fish landed just down the road at Hove Lagoon, we believe great food starts with great ingredients.
A menu that changes with the seasons.
Our menu evolves throughout the year to reflect seasonal produce, local availability and new ideas from the kitchen. While you'll always find familiar Ancient Mariner favourites, there is usually something new to discover each week.
The menu below is a sample of our current offering and may change as dishes sell out or new seasonal specials become available.
Wednesday Steak Night.
Every Wednesday evening, alongside our regular menu, we serve our popular Steak Frites special. £12 Steak Frites - a 6oz steak served with fries and garlic butter, with additional sides available.

Sundays are special.
Every Sunday we serve traditional roasts with all the trimmings, prepared from scratch using carefully sourced ingredients. We start reducing our roast gravy on Wednesday and spend several days preparing everything from scratch, from roasted meats to all the little details that make a proper roast dinner.
Because we prepare limited quantities each week, booking is strongly recommended.
Wed - Thu: 5-9pm | Fri - Sat: 12-9pm | Sunday Roasts: 12-5pm
A note about availability.
As everything is prepared fresh and our menu changes regularly, occasional substitutions or sell-outs may occur. We do not currently offer a children’s menu.
We cannot guarantee the absence of traces of gluten or other allergens. Please advise a member of staff if you have any dietary requirements.
