PROPER SUNDAY ROASTS IN HOVE.
Sundays are special.
At The Ancient Mariner, Sunday lunch is one of the highlights of our week. While many kitchens begin preparing their roasts on Sunday morning, we start ours on Wednesday. Our gravy begins with stock that is slowly reduced over several days, creating a rich depth of flavour without relying on thickening agents. Alongside it come giant Yorkshire puddings, crispy roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and all the little details that turn a meal into a proper Sunday tradition. It's a labour of love, but we think it's worth it.
What makes our roasts different?
Homemade Gravy - Our stock begins reducing on Wednesday and is slowly cooked down over several days to create a rich depth of flavour without relying on thickening agents.
Made From Scratch - Everything possible is prepared in-house by our kitchen team, from our roasts and Yorkshire puddings to the little details that make a proper Sunday lunch.
Local Ingredients - From Brighton Sausage Co pigs in blankets to carefully sourced meats and seasonal produce, we work with trusted local suppliers wherever possible.
Cooked In Limited Quantities - We prepare our roasts fresh each week in limited quantities to maintain quality, which means some options occasionally sell out.
Our Sunday menu changes throughout the year to reflect seasonal ingredients and availability, but you'll usually find something along the lines of:

Whether you're joining us for a special occasion or simply because it's Sunday, we'd love to welcome you.
